2022 TRANS & NONBINARY COHORT
Kirby Marshall-Collins is a Black TV writer and director who amplifies the voices of Black and queer people through fun and fantastical coming-of-age stories. Originally from Chicago, Kirby spent her teen years pursuing theater in Pleasanton, California before focusing on film and TV. She is a Disney Entertainment Writing Fellow — chosen from thousands for the highly competitive TV staffing program in 2023. In 2022, Kirby excelled as a Writers’ Assistant on NANCY DREW (CW) where her pitches made it on TV for the first time. She recently wrapped principal photography on her short film debut, “WAYS TO FLY,” which she wrote, directed, and produced. She received a Panavision New Filmmaker Grant for the project and is also an Emerging Artist Fellow with the Los Angeles Performance Practice. Still, her greatest accomplishments are helping her nephew make Christmas stockings and sewing a Beyoncé inspired Christmas sweater in the backseat of an Uber on the way to a holiday party.
